Maurice White my Brother

Nothing can prepare you for losing one of the most significant People in your life.
It’s a Heart Wowzer.
It’s a head and emotional spinner, that sucks all of your energy.
But on the other side, I’m rejoicing at Maurice getting that Fire he once had and a Trillion times more.

He finished his race… and now, he gets his wings so to speak, a never ending, everlasting ability to soar freely, with Radiance and splendor in the glory of God’s Love. It’s what we use to talk about, what we use to write and sing about.

He gets there before I do and I can just about bet somebody a star that he will be showing off and showing out so when I get there, I can say, “Teach me how to do that”.

I will miss you my Big Brother Maurice. Down here.
But where you are, I’m Sure that you wouldn’t come back even if you could.

You were a Big Brother, at times a Father figure, a Teacher, a Preacher and The Greatest Friend who could crack me up with your down home humor, and mad swagger.

Love Love Love Evermore.
Your Brother Philip James Bailey

So many Melodies, so many Memories.

Well said brother Phillip. We are thankful Maurice and Earth Wind and Fire came to be for such a time as the 70’s.

Greetings Phillip we met once many years ago after one of your shows”Vancouver B.C. Canada, it was a delight to see you and Maurice and Vervaine that time, thank you for your kindness. My family and I send our condolences over the loss of your “brother/father” Maurice White. I agree that he must now be traversing God’s great creation “The Master Universe” on route to Paradise. Dear Philip Bailey; Hello. My name is Susan Grossman Swift. I am the sister of Harry Grossman. I have followed your FB page and have seen EWandF since the 70’s. When I was in California, in 1979, Harry brought me to the Complex to meet you. I doubt if you would remember. But, what I wanted to say was that I too am a Christian now. I accepted the Lord in 1975. I now know that Jesus is my Messiah. I grew up around Harry and Rich Salvato and was always proud of Harry’s accomplishments. Well. I won’t keep you, but I did want you to know this and to say that it was an honor meeting you so many years ago. In His love, Susan Grossman Swift. P.S. I also met you at your Madison Square Concert here in NY, around 1979 or 80…time flies..

What you have created together is a way for the world to come together. EWF, yours is the song of humanity. If all people in anguish and strife could hear your music, they would be soothed, and peace would reign. EWF should be the official musicians of the United Nations.

How much your music has helped soothe me in my times of anguish and stress, so many times. What you created has been a blessing to me. So has it been to the whole world.

I am grateful I got to see you perform last year in Baltimore. My daughter Julie arranged that, bless her, for my birthday. What a gift!

I join you in mourning your loss, and I pray you will be comforted. God bless you.

    Ed

Dear Philip, What a beautiful and heartfelt message! 5 years ago this past Easter a 19 year old friend of our son got out of a taxi in NYC and was hit and killed by another taxi. At the time of his decision to get out of the taxi on the wrong side of the street, Ryan was a sophomore on a golf scholarship at Long Island University. The Ryan T. Lee Memorial Foundation is the result of that fateful decision. Much as you all with EWF do to bring people together for a higher and better way…. We through Ryan’s Foundation are doing too. On 8/12 we will be holding the 6th annual Ryan T. Lee Golf Classic. We will have a full complement of 144 golfers teeing off in a scramble in the afternoon and over 100 more will have gone off in the morning. We would love to have you a) play or b) have EWF play at the dinner we will have at night. Realizing fully you must get a million of these requests/offers, a year….. I write as an almost 63 year old total admirer of EWF. Thank you for making my life thoroughly more enjoyable because of your music, and all the VERY BEST TO YOU, Verdine, Ralph and everybody associated with EWF. Sincerely, Jim McNair. Please if you’d like take a look at: http://www.ryantleememorialfoundation.org

That’s a wonderful sentiment to your close friend and brother. I never met Maurice, but I had a great admiration for the music. It was “Mighty-Mighty!”

    Dear Philip,

Today, thoughts of Maurice White’s music came to my mind. As I was thinking about his legacy, I began to realize that the world is literally a better place having listened to EWF’s music. I wish I could have sat and talked to him. I wish I could have written at least a chorus with him. He was such a conscious gentleman. I look up to you guys. ALL OF YOU! You guys embarked on a major journey. Though Mr. White isn’t here with us in the physical form, his spirit lives IN EVERYONE! To EWF, it’s not over. Keep pushing. Keep writing. Keep shining.

    Love,

    Hayley
